Go for a Second Opinion. I originally went to Ferber Dental for pain on the right side. Following extensive X-rays, they found no issue on the right (which turned out to be a jaw problem). However, they told me that tooth No 11 on the left — where a crown had fallen off — needed to be extracted and replaced with an implant costing $4,583. I paid a $1,638 deposit. Wanting to resolve the jaw issue, I visited another dentist. He took an X-ray of tooth No. 11, concluded it was healthy, and suggested a new crown for about $1,300. At home, I found the old crown and decided to get a third opinion. The third dentist also took an X-ray and confirmed that the tooth did NOT need extraction. He simply reinstalled the crown and the tooth is still doing fine.
